Prof. Dr. Sci. h.c. Antonio Georgiev was born in 1969 in Skopje, the Republic of Macedonia. Responsible work as a medical doctor in the scientific-research projects, author and co-author of more than 200 papers, presented on local, national and international congresses, seminars or journals. He was also guest editor of the International Journal SANAMED from Serbia, journal with impact factor. Currently, as cardiologist, he is working at the PHO Cardiology – Prima, Skopje, Macedonia. He holds lectures for Health Management on MIT University, Skopje, Macedonia.
Education: He graduated at the Faculty of Medicine, at the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Medical Science at the Faculty of Medicine, at the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius” on the thesis “Evaluation on medically treated patients with atrio-ventricular blocks” in October 2001. He passed his specialist examination in April 2002 and acquired the professional title of a specialist in internal medicine. In 2008, he passed his subspecialist examination and acquired the professional title of a subspecialist-cardiologist. He defended his Doctoral Dissertation at the Faculty of Medicine, at the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius” under the title: “Association of the Coronary Artery Disease to Polymorphisms and Mutations in the Genes for Lipoprotein Lipase and Apolipoproteins” on June 26, 2009 and acquired the title of a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences. His Dissertation has its contribution in the field of invasive cardiology and in the field of contemporary molecular cardiology.
Work experience: He performs his professional duties at the University Clinic of Cardiology, namely Invasive Cardiologist at the Angiographic Laboratory, Pacemaker implantologist at the Pacemaker Centre, the Department for Post-intensive Coronary Care, and the Out-patient and Diagnostic Department. In the theory and practice he has introduced Molecular Cardiology. Implant ECG – LOOP recorder, which is an operative method in the field of arrhytmology, has been also introduced by him at the University Clinic of Cardiology in Skopje.
Book publishing: Prof. Dr. Sci. h.c. Antonio Georgiev published a book, monograph, titled “Molecular and socio-medical aspects of coronary artery disease”- Cardiology and health policy. Also he is a first author of his second book “Top 10 chronic diseases of the 21st century”. The publisher is Lambert Academic Publishing House, which is an associated member of the American Booksellers Association and the Booksellers Association of Great Britain and Ireland. The books are distributed in great number of bookshops, in well-known university libraries, and also it can be found in the global internet bookshops, such as: Amazon, Alibris, Book Butler, Barnes&Noble, BooksAMillion, Pick a book, More Books, Buch, AbeBooks, Biblio.com… He has also published the guide book for patients under the title: “How to live with a pacemaker”.
Scientific and educational activities: Author and co-author of more than 200 papers, presented on local, national and international congresses, seminars or journals. He was also guest editor of the International Journal SANAMED from Serbia, journal with impact factor. Concerning the educational activity at the University Clinic of Cardiology, Prof. Dr. Sci. h.c. A. Georgiev was actively involved in the theoretical and practical education of the students of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. In addition to his scientific and educational activities at the Medical Faculty, Prof. Dr. Sci. h.c. Antonio Georgiev as a renowned scientist and an expert from the practice is also engaged in the University education at the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius”, Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. He holds lectures for the subjects: Health Policy at the Institute for Social Work and Social Policy, Medical Basis of Invalidity and Health Policy at the Institute for Special education and Social psychology at the Institute of Psychology. On the Institute of Special education, at the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius”, he founded the subject Chronic Diseases and held lectures to students. Actually he holds lectures for Health Management on MIT University, Skopje, Macedonia.By his engagements in lecturing and educational courses, he has contributed in professional promotion of many health workers and collaborators. By many interviews, publications and articles in newspapers and media, he has popularized and promoted health education of the population regarding the prevention, early diagnosing and contemporary treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Republic of Macedonia.
